Winning The Lottery

There is a customer we deliver to who  NEVER tips. She is very friendly so I usually don’t mind. I figure she probably doesn’t have the extra money since she is  elderly.  Many grandmothers struggle just to get by in these hard times. She orders about once a week most of the time. This time it was a fairly large order ($67 to be exact)  When I arrived at her house she was trying to wrangle up her dogs that somehow got out of the yard. I left the pizzas in the car and ran to assist her with the dogs. She was very grateful and when I gave her the pizzas and read out her total of $67 she reached into her purse and handed me a one hundred dollar bill and said to me, “Son, you’re always so nice every time you come by. Listen. I want you to take this $100 and keep the change.”

I felt like it was very generous but didn’t want to accept the $33 tip that she was offering. I told her, “Thanks but I cannot accept that much as a tip. It just wouldn’t be right.” She said, “Son, I insist. I just won $10,000 on a lottery scratch ticket and I want to share my winnings with you.” I accepted that tip, thanked her about ten times and drove off with a smile from ear to ear.

Miscommunication Hilarity

Today a lady came into Barones  who I had been led to believe was deaf.  She and and her friend always come in to get to-go orders and I had never heard her say anything before. Today she was by herself. I started asking her what her order was and what kind of toppings she wanted on her pizza with hand gestures and by pointing at the menu. I then noticed that she was also reading my lips. I felt weird talking out loud to a person who was reading my lips, so for some reason I just started mouthing the words I was saying. After about a minute of this  the lady pulls out a piece of paper, scribbles something quickly on it with a pen, and slides it to me across the counter top. I look down to read it and my jaw drops. “I CAN HEAR”. needless to say we could hardly  contain ourselves laughing.

Teenage boys now have a new ruse

I’ve been delivering  Barones pizzeria for the past four years. Once, I pulled into a driveway in a fairly nice part of Woodland  hills that we regularly deliver to. I had never been to this particular house, and noticed two teenage boys standing on the big front porch. One was on a cell phone.

I walked up, said hello, and one of the guys said, “My Mom went upstairs to get the money.” I said, “Okay,” and started handing the four-pizza order to one of them. He then took the food into the house, and I noticed that he closed the door behind him unusually fast. I stood there for a minute and the second guy hung up his cell phone. He said to me, “Let me go see what the hell is taking her so long.” Then, he went in and again, closed the door fast behind him. At this point, I was getting impatient and starting to think that something was up with those guys.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited another minute. Finally, I knocked on the door. Then I rang the doorbell. Then I knocked REALLY hard   Nothing!
I threw the pizza bag in my truck and turned off my engine. That was when I caught a glimpse into a window and realized that the house was completely empty!. No furniture or anything.!  I then saw the “for sale” sign laying in the bushes! so teenage boys   now have a new ruse :  use empty houses to steal pizza!

21st anniversary of The record for the world’s largest pizza

According to Guinness World Records, the record for the world’s largest circular pizza was set at Norwood Hypermarket in South Africa in December 1990. The gigantic pie measured 122 feet 8 inches across, weighed 26,883 pounds, and contained 9,920 pounds of flour, 3,968 pounds of cheese, and 1,984 pounds of sauce. In 2005, the record for the world’s largest rectangular pizza was set in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Pizza restaurant owner Bill Bahr and a team of 200 helpers created the 129 X 98.6-foot pizza from 4,000 pounds of cheese, 700 pounds of sauce, and 9,500 sections of crust. The enormous pie was enough to feed the town’s 5,200 residents ten slices of pizza each.

Hiya  to all you Pizza lovers! We are now live with our new website and  we hope you will find it easier to use and a bit more informative about what goes into our Pizza!

We  really welcome feedback from  our customers so please feel free to comment. Recently we starting posting  the reviews that so many of you  post on  Yelp and other social media sites and as can be  seen, we are very proud of  the overall rating that we get. Unlike the factory pizza folk who blanket the TV and web with ads  we rely on  YOUR opinions and Reviews for our business so we spend our money on the product rather than the ads  in the belief that truth will out! Some folks ask us whether the recipes have changed down the years and the answer is most definitely NOT! They are the same as they were when we opened way back in 1945.

White pizza!

This is our first Blog post and its to tell all our customers about the new pizza experience we have concocted  inspired by the Beatles!   The “white”  Pizza  with Alfredo Sauce, Onions, Chicken, Cheese with Parmesan Cheese on top after it’s cooked. This  medley like the Beatles  album  may LOOK very unusual as far a pizza is concerned  but once your taste buds experience it  you know its gonna be a classic!
